Techniques

I have been thoroughly trained in Psychiatric Assessment, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), the Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy (DNMS), Eye Movement Desensitisation (EMDR), Jungian Psychotherapy and to a lesser level a wide range of other personal therapies.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

This technique focuses on how our thoughts and beliefs affect our behaviour. Working with CBT may include teaching a technique to monitor levels of fear and stress called the Subjective Units of Distress Scale (SUDS), Relaxation Training, Grounding, Journaling, Reading set books and behavioural assignments which might involve increasing physical activity or increasing activities that give pleasure.

Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy (DNMS)

Essentially this work focuses on the importance of our early relationships with primary caregivers and borrows from Attachment Theory. For a more detailed description of this process see www.DNMSinstitute.com

Jungian Psychotherapy

This approach involves going into an inner deep space and confronting the shadow part of the self – those aspects of ourselves that have been denied or that we pretend aren’t there. For more information on this approach see “Memories, Dreams and Reflections”.
